Our Services

Career Coaching Services

Our career coaching services follow a six step process. Each step is supported by our extensive curriculum and is customized to meet each client’s specific needs. In our complimentary introductory session, we strive to understand your short term career aspirations, interest in graduate school or professional certifications, and your long term career dreams and lifestyle goals. In addition, this session is also a two way interview to ensure that all parties agree that there is a mutual fit.

To decide on a job search trajectory, we talk about your interest and strengths, use assessment tools and handouts, and work through a variety of feedback forms. Our process is not a linear path, nor is it always sequential. Sometimes in the middle of finalizing resumes and cover letters, a surprise interview pops up and we need to shift our focus to prepare for the interview process. Our career counseling services are completely flexible and easily allow for this type of adjustment.

Our goal is for every client to move through all six steps of our curriculum and have a solid understanding of where they want to begin their professional career. Every client will also be equipped with life skills needed to help them navigate today’s workplace, including:

  • How to build your professional network
  • Research a new industry
  • Develop a target list of companies
  • Apply for a job
  • Deliver a compelling elevator pitch
  • Interview effectively
  • Build a contact management system
  • Present yourself with professionalism.

Please click on each stage below to learn more about our activities and deliverables.

We regularly host workshops and participate in events on a variety of career coaching topics. Whether you are an independent school, a university, or a community group, we customize our workshops to give our clients the frameworks and tactical help they need to launch their future. We are happy to customize each of our group sessions by including examples of alumni from your program. At all of our speaking engagements, we discuss employment trends, emerging tactical skills and best practices to build effective careers.

Topics include:

  • How to use LinkedIn to maximize your job search
  • How to get clear, get a plan, get hired
  • Tapping into the “hidden job market”
  • Successful case preparation tools
  • Three critical tools that your job search can’t live without
  • Job search is not a 4 letter word
  • Align your coursework with your career goals

Take advantage of our team’s 15 years of combined experience and expertise to step confidently into the job market and start your career on the right foot. Our career coaching services are tailored to suit your individual goals, lifestyle, and personal needs.

  • Am I your typical client?

Our typical client is a young aspiring or mid-career professional. Friends would describe you as smart, dynamic, opinionated, and eager to take on a new challenge. Are you a hard worker who isn’t sure how to accelerate your career? We work both with clients that are searching for a full time role after college or graduate school and also professionals looking to make a change in their current career path.

  • How do I get started?

We offer a complimentary 30 minute session to review your background, describe our services, and allow all of us to see if there is a mutual fit. Contact us at info@thecareerpathpartners.com or call 540.300.7461 to arrange a meeting. We can meet face to face in our office in McLean, VA or via skype or phone.

  • May I bring someone with me to my first session?

Absolutely, many of our clients choose to bring whomever they typically use for support (emotional and/or financial) to the first session. For our current and recent college graduates, parents or another family member often come. For our mid-career professionals, sometimes spouses or partners join the meeting. If someone does join you, they will learn an overview of our process and the deliverables, tools, and skills that you will develop while working with us. After the initial meeting, however, our work with our clients is confidential, so we do not update parents or spouses/partners after this session.

  • Do you work with particular industries?

The coaches in The Career Path Partners have more than 45 years of workplace experience across almost every major industry. We have in depth knowledge of the following industries: consulting, consumer packaged goods, entrepreneurship, federal government, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, higher education, high tech, hospitality, media and entertainment, and many more.

  • Will I be assigned one coach or have access to the entire team?

You will be assigned a primary coach that will work with you on the bulk of your work. That said, all of our coaches are always available to provide coaching particularly if you require coaching in a particular industry more familiar to another coach.

  • What specific coaching packages do you offer?

We offer a variety of coaching packages ranging from just resume and cover letter to more robust and encompassing our full curriculum. We also provide coaching on an hourly basis.

  • How long are the in person sessions?

We meet for 55 minutes when we meet in person. We schedule phone or skype sessions for either 30 (well, 28 minutes) or 55 minutes.

  • Where is your office?

We have an office in downtown McLean, Virginia with ample free parking. We are within the McLean Professional Park.

  • I don’t live in the Washington, DC area can you still work with me?

Of course, given the global nature of the business world, we have worked with clients from Los Angeles to Dubai. We generally meet via skype when clients are not in the D.C. area. And, truth be told, some of our clients in D.C. are too busy to meet in person or the traffic is too treacherous, so we conduct our coaching via skype and phone with them as well.

  • Do you ever provide pro bono services for those who cannot afford to pay?

Absolutely. We take on several pro bono clients each year depending on our current work load and availability. Please contact us at info@thecareerpathpartners.com to inquire.

  • Why did you start The Career Path Partners?

We love working with aspiring young and mid-career professionals. Our mission is to teach young aspiring and mid-career professionals the lifelong skills and job search strategies necessary to find their career path now and in the future
